(Menasha) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region announces the Racine Street bridge in the city of Menasha, Winnebago County, will be closed Thursday, March 7, and Friday, March 8 for minor work to reposition bridge bearing plates and bridge shims to enhance structural stability and minimize noise levels.

Lunda Construction from Manitowoc, Wisconsin, is conducting the work. The bridge will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians.

Racine Street Bridge CLOSURE:

The bridge is safe for all modes of transportation. The work is a minor adjustment to the Racine Street Bridge. Construction of the new bridge finished in 2023. The city of Menasha took ownership of the new Racine Street Bridge following construction per state statutes.

Bridge shims and bearing plates play a crucial role in distributing loads and facilitating smooth movements between bridge components. Due to various factors such as settling, temperature, and vibrations, these components can become misaligned, leading to reduced contact areas and increased noise during bridge operations.

By repositioning bridge shims and bearing plates, we can ensure optimal contact between structural elements, thereby improving load distribution and reducing noise generated from friction and movement.

This proactive approach not only enhances the safety and functionality of the bridge but also contributes to a quieter and more pleasant traveling experience for all bridge users.
