What are your office and recycle drop off hours?
- The Public Works Facility (PWF) office is open year-round Monday through Friday from 7:00 am until 3:00 pm .
- The Recycling Center is open daily from 6:00 am until 8:00 pm.
How do I dispose of a Freon containing appliance or microwave?
Freon containing appliances (refrigerator, freezer, dehumidifier, air conditioner) and microwaves require a special permit for disposal. The permit is $20.00 and can be purchased at City Hall (2nd floor) or at the Public Works Facility. The appliance can be collected from your terrace area on your normal refuse collection day or can be brought to the PWF for disposal. If the appliance is to be collected from the terrace a Bulky Item Disposal sticker must accompany the permit. The door or doors must be removed from refrigerators and freezers.
How do I dispose of computer components and electronics?
Effective September 1, 2010, electronics are banned from Wisconsin landfills. Computers, televisions, cameras, stereos, phones, etc., also known as e-waste can be recycled locally. Check local recycling options, many local options are available with and without fees. Not all collectors and/or recyclers will accept all types of electronics. How can I dispose of unused paint?
Latex paint can be disposed of with your regular trash when the paint is dried to a solid state. If the paint is still liquid, open the top and allow the paint to air dry. To speed up the process, you may also add sand, kitty litter or latex paint hardener to the paint. Other non-latex paints must be disposed of as a hazardous waste at the county landfill at the Household Hazardous Material Facility.
Does the City of Menasha have a "Clean Sweep" program for hazardous waste?

When are branches and limbs collected in the City of Menasha?
Public Works crews will chip branches and limbs over 12" in length curbside each month throughout the calendar year. Please see the calendar for the designated week each month for pick up on your regular refuse collection day. Residents may also haul branches and other yard waste to the drop-off site at Bucklin's Tree Service located at 936 Appleton Road. Please remember the following instructions for curbside branch and limb placement:
- Place branches and limbs loose at the curb, not bundled.
- Branches and limbs must be over 12" in length.
- Branches may not exceed 10 inches in diameter.
- Longer lengths facing in the same direction are easier and safer for the crews to handle.
- Branches and limbs may not be placed at the curb more than 48 hours prior to your collection day.
- The city will not collect branches, limbs, and yard waste resulting from the clearance of a lot for construction.
How are leaves collected in the fall?
Leaf collection will generally begin by the middle of October and ends usually the last week of November. This year the collection will begin Monday, October 9th and end Friday, November 17th. City crews will be collecting loose leaves in each neighborhood with the goal of being in each neighborhood multiple times during this collection period. Heavy volume and weather may cause crews to fall behind schedule, but we will proceed in sequence through the entire city. We appreciate your patience.
- Place leaves loosely on the terrace, not on the street. Your cooperation will reduce street drainage problems and inlet clogging.
- Grass clippings and garden stalks must be shorter than 12 inches in length.
- Separate leaves from the branches and limbs. Branch and limb collection week is designated in the Horizon calendar and your pick up will be on your regular refuse collection day of that week.
In the event that you still have leaves after we have concluded our final collection you may drop them off at the Bucklin's Tree Service located at 936 Appleton Road.
When does Annual Spring Clean-up begin?
NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR COLLECTION - NO PLASTIC BAGS
In the spring, yard waste will be collected curbside and city crews will be in your neighborhood the working day following your regular refuse collection day during a two-week period. The spring collection will begin Monday, April 10, 2023 for a 2-week period and end on Friday, April 21, 2023. If schedules are delayed due to unforeseen difficulties, service may be extended one week to compensate for lost time. Please observe the following guidelines for the spring yard waste program:
• Yard waste must be separated from refuse, placed in paper biodegradable bags, buckets or baskets only, and placed on the terrace (not in the street) for collection.
• Corrugated boxes are not acceptable containers.
• Biodgradeable paper bags when filled with yard waste shall not exceed a 50 pounds weight limit.
• Buckets and baskets must have external handles and shall not exceed 33 gallons and 30# weight limit.
• Leaves not collected last fall should be placed in paper bags for collection or brought to Bucklin's Facility during operating hours.
• Branches and limbs should be placed loose on the terrace and will be collected during branch and limb collection.
When and how do I dispose of a large bulky item?
- The City of Menasha has a standardized level of service which is a 64-gallon refuse container and therefore, any refuse that needs to be disposed of that does not fit into the blue refuse cart needs to be stickered with an appropriate sticker to be picked up on garbage day. The city provides five (5) stickers per year to sticker large bulky and overflow items for disposal. These stickers are mailed to your home in the Horizon Calendar.
- If these stickers are used or misplaced, additional stickers can be purchased at City Hall or the Public Works Facility. The cost of each overflow sticker (for a bag outside of cart) is $2.00. Bulky item stickers (for a couch, stove, bed, etc.) cost $15.00 each.
- For families regularly exceeding the standard volume of refuse can upgrade to a 96-gallon refuse container at a cost of $2.00 per week. Payment for this additional charge is included on your yearly tax bill.
- All freon-based appliances (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, etc.)and microwaves require a disposal permit which cost $20.00 each.
How does the dumpster rental program work?
- The Public Works Facility has 2-cubic yard dumpsters available for our residents to rent for limited periods of time. An agreement needs to be completed at the Public Works Facility, there is a deposit required at that time.
- All dumping charges are collected in advance and the deposit is used for the first dumping charge.
- The dumpster rental has been used for miscellaneous cleaning, moving, and small remodeling projects.
- Disposal of metal, recyclables, electronics, concrete, stone, dirt, yardwaste, tires, and paint cans is not allowed in our dumpsters.
- A volume restriction is enforced when disposing of roofing or lath and plaster.

Who do I call to report long grass or weeds?
You may report long grass or weeds to the Public Works Facility by calling 967-3620.
Please note that it may take up to 7 days after the complaint is issued for a Public Works crew to remove the long grass or noxious weeds as staff follows the below protocol.
- Public Works receives the complaint.
- Public Works checks the property for non-compliance with City Code.
- If property is non-compliant, Public Works staff sends a five day notice to the property owner.
- If, after five days, the property has not been brought into compliance, the property owner is given a 24 hour notice, which details that the Public Works crew will be clearing any long grass or noxious weeds from the property in question at the property owners cost.
- After 24 hours a Public Works crew will clear the long grass and noxious weeds.
- Subsequent complaints for the same address generally result in an immediate 24 hour notice to comply.

Where do I report a water main break?
To report a water main break contact Menasha Water Plant at 967-3450.
What do I do if I have a sewer backup?
Call the Public Works Facility at 920-967-3620 between 7:00am--3:00pm Monday through Friday. After hours call the Menasha Police Department non-emergency number at 920-967-3500.
The City crew will check the public sewer main. If the main is found in good operating condition, the likely cause of the backup is your sewer lateral. Residents are responsible for maintenance and repair on sewer laterals.
What can I bring to the recycling center?
- You may bring cardboard, metal, plastic, paper and glass to the Recycling Center at the Public Works Facility.
- You may also bring motor oil to dispose. However, you must be able to leave the container you are bringing the oil in. We do not have a barrel to dump the oil and take your bin home.
