School Resource Officer (SRO)
The City of Menasha Police Department pairs with the Menasha Joint School District to have School Resource Officers in the schools. Officers selected to these positions must have a minimum of two years of experience as a police officer and have to complete an interview process that includes both educational and law enforcement administration and members. They also have to attend the Delinquency Control Institute as well as other specialized trainings for situations involving kids.
Our partnership with the School District is a strong one. They have recognized the positive impact our officers have on the school community and how the program promotes strong connections between our youth citizens and the Police Department. Through our program we have seen juvenile crime rates drop and officers who have served in this capacity have developed lifelong connections with some that carry over to patrol work or other assignments after leaving the SRO assignment.
