Food can become contaminated by undercooking, poor hand hygiene, and cross-contamination of raw and ready-to-eat foods. There are many types of foodborne illnesses, so symptoms and duration vary.

Waterborne illnesses are transmitted through contact or ingesting contaminated water. Contaminated water may include, fountains, wells, rivers, lakes, ponds and pools. People can become ill by consuming food prepared with contaminated water, drinking, swimming or bathing. Symptoms of waterborne diseases are similar to that of gastrointestinal symptoms and foodborne illness.

To report a Category I communicable disease, please call the health department at 920-967-3520 during regular business hours. The health department is open Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
