Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
As the weather cools down and winter approaches, home heating systems are ran for longer periods of time and the risk of Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning increases. Carbon Monoxide is a gas that can't be seen or smelled. It's produced when fuels (kerosene, gas, wood, propane) are burned. Make sure all spaces are properly ventilated and include a working carbon monoxide detector on every level of your home.
Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning: headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, weakness, confusion and chest pain. People and animals can be poisoned and die from breathing in carbon monoxide after some time.
Prevention Tips:
-Check your CO detector twice a year and change batteries
-Keep vents free of debris
-Never leave a vehicle running in a closed or partially closed space, like a garage
-Have your heating system, water heater, and gas-supplied appliances serviced each year
-Never use a charcoal grill, lantern, or portable camping stove inside the home/camper
